Sev's Guide to Sniping, Stealth, and other Tips in CoD4 Empty Sev's Guide to Sniping, Stealth, and other Tips in CoD4

As the title says, here's a basic guide for stealth and sniper tactics in COD4 that i have learned thus far. (NOTE: this is for Hard Core mode)

Sniper Sniper :
1. Perks: As a sniper, it is suggested (but not necessary) to use a UAV jammer as soon as you can. This helps keep your position relatively secret from your opponent(s). You may also want to use the Iron lungs perk so you can keep the crosshairs steady for longer amounts of time and you may want claymores if you intend to stay in one spot for an extended amount of time (recommended).

2. Your weapons: A good sniper should only need one shot to take down his target. Given this is not always the case, but good practice for this would be using one of the bolt-action sniper rifles instead of the semi-auto snipers. I personally suggest the M40A3 sniper rifle. It has the best accuracy of all the snipers, and out of the two bolt action sniper rifles, it has the most ammo as well as a faster reload time. As for a side arm, normally this is where i'd say use this type of gun, but here it is honestly more about your own opinion. I personally switch between the suppressed M9 and the Deagle. The Deagle can be used for one shot kills, even at range (i have used it as a mini-sniper for my other classes when needed). However, the M9 will keep you position concealed better, but will often take 2 shots as will all the other suppress-able pistols unless you get a headshot on them.

3. Tactics and locations: Most snipers you see in game tend to stand where they can easily be seen, even if they think they cant. DO NOT DO THIS. There are many spots where you will camouflage with the background or your head will barely be visible. Always check your surroundings to see if you'll blend in well and to see how many places people can sneak up on you from (this is where claymores come in handy).

Another thing you want to keep in mind is that destroyed cars are your friend as a sniper. If you are crouched behind a car, chances are only the top of your head will be seen if at all. One way to tell if you have achieved the most cover possible with still having a good view is if you can just barely see over the wall or barrier you are behind. Another thing to keep in mind is that high places are not always the best places for sniping. True they give you the best vantage point, but they also make you a much more vulnerable target to non-sniper fire. Sometimes it is smart to stand between two walls with a small view of an important location where it is more difficult to see you and hit you.

Always try to pick a position you can defend easily with your pistol or claymores. Though if you kill someone at close range, you may want to take his gun since they usually use fully automatic weapons which you can use for a better defense against people trying to kill you at close range.

Always be wary of enemy snipers!!! They are your worst enemy on the field. If you see them and a guy with an assault rifle next to each other, shoot the sniper first. The sniper is more likely to see your muzzle flash and shoot you before you can re-steady and shoot him. Another one of your worst enemies will be anybody with an LMG. These guys can easily use an LMG like a full-auto sniper. LMGs are cheap, very accurate, and overpowered to the point where they can punch through multiple walls and still kill you with one or two shots. You may often want to crawl into your position instead of run or crouch walk to it. It may be slower, but you wont get shot for it as easily. And from my own experience, AVOID FRIENDLIES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!! They tend to give away your position with LMGs or automatic rifles causing you to be the attention of the entire enemy team. HOWEVER, they can sometimes be useful as bait. If they get shot instead of you, the enemy will often think "oh, well there goes their sniper" giving you a chance to shoot them.

Stealth I'm a ninja :

1. Perks: As with the sniper, use a UAV jammer. You can use any of the other perks in the other two classes, but it is probably best to use Steady Aim or Dead Silent (i use Steady Aim), since most of your foes will be at closer ranges. Though if you plan on going after snipers you may want the Bomb Squad perk.

2. Weapons: You can really use any weapon you'd like, but it is best to use a weapon that can be suppressed to keep you off the radar while shooting. However, if you can, the Deagle is a very good secondary weapon since it can one shot an enemy at range and is very useful at close range as well. Suppressed pistols are good to keep you off the radar, but then again that's what your main weapon is for. You can use a suppressed pistol if you want to, this is also mainly about preference than "what to use".

3. Tactics and locations: As with everything, snipers are a constant danger you want to watch out for. When in the vicinity of a sniper, always check around corners slowly in case of a claymore. Watch for the red lines and remember, claymores have a MUCH wider trigger range than just the red lines, so watch out for tricky corners, rooms and stairways. You can sprint past claymores without being damaged as long as you sprint all the way through to the other side of them. You should also always be wary of spots where you could hide and be barely visible and where people will easily walk past you so you can shoot them in the back. Other than look at every spot while walking into a room where someone could be hiding in, just run around and shoot people.

Tips Present :

So in the server i play in, i had at one point noticed that the admin would use no attachments on their AK-47, even if they had UAV jammer with them. When i asked them, they told me that the AK-47 is MORE powerful without any attachments than with an attachment. When i tried it out, it was true! I started noticing that it took fewer shoots to kill someone with the AK without any attachments than with even just a red dot sight.

Here are some weapon accuracy tips: All full auto weapons excluding LMGs, most SMGs (everything except the AK-47u i think, may be wrong), and two assault rifles sway while aiming down the sights. The two assault rifles that do not sway are the G3 and the M16. The G3 can kill with one direct shot, even with a suppressor on it, and the M16 can kill with one burst (not sure if through walls also, i dont use it really). For the weapons that do sway, most of them sway the same amount except for the G36c which sways less than the AK-47, AK-47u, and M4.

Another great tip I use is watching your teammates deaths and kills. Say i'm sniping and i cant see any enemies. I watch my teammate go around the corner, i take a mental note of his name, if he dies within 10 seconds, i know to get ready to shoot. If he dies much later, well then nothing much to do there. This is like your own UAV, however it is never as accurate as an actual UAV where you can watch where your teammates die on the map.

Yeah, strangely enough, you would be very surprised at how many people just stand in an open doorway sniping from a building. Such easy targets.

Heh, good tips. Although, I do prefer my ACOG Scorpion. Tis very fun. Also, another thing about sniping that I found usefull is sniping though cars. I'm talking about, laying on the hood or back of the car, and shooting through the open parts. The chairs and stuff in the car cause your head to kind of blend in with it. I will try to get screenies for examples because I an not always the best at describing schtuffs.

Also, the M16 is a great weapon to get your skill up. I didn't quite use it in CoD 4(PC), but on MW 2 and Black Ops (Xbox 360), I used the M16 and it really helped me with my aiming. It's due to its burst fire. If you don't kill them in the first burst, then you have a much higher chance of dying. You are normally lucky to get off a second burst. This forces you to be able to aim directly at them as fast as possible, no only increasing your reaction time, but also your aim. I also found that, if I ever went to almost ANY other gun, I would just destroy. So pretty much, use "really bad" guns, and when you move from those to the "normal" ones, you may just find the game is much easier to play than before.[/EndTextWall]

I was mainly talking about laying down on the hood of a car, almost on the windsheild. Usually works pretty well for me. I also just started using the M16 and I have already seen myself improving. A little.

I play on my console, and i always felt that stopping power was far more useful as a sniper, but i guess that is a matter of opinion. I was always a decently quick draw with my sidearm, so enemies close to me don't bother me as much. Good tips though Sev!

Yeah, i dont use stopping power mainly because i try to play in hardcore matches, but for the times i dont, i do use stopping power for my sniper. And as for the pistol, i've been getting really good at triple-tapping. Twisted Evil
