Why I hate Inception
***SPOILER ALERT***
The ending.
But first, the parts I do like. It was refreshing to get away from the Matrix paradigm, "If you die in the Matrix, you die for real." Bah. If it's a simulation, if the machines need the sleeper for the energy the human body produces, they most certainly wouldn't waste a human life, they'd have a fail-safe. So I deeply approved of Inception's way of doing things. If you die in dream state, you don't die for real, you wake up. Very nice.
The action sequences are well-made and fun to watch. The multiple dream states were a very cool concept that kept me on my seat.
Sounds like Inception's on its way to a big thumbs up from me. Nope.
They had to get cute, didn't they? Or maybe they thought it was a good way to set up Inception 2. Either way, complete fail. When the director went with an ambiguous ending, whatever reason he thought he had was meaningless before this ruinous choice. You can't have it both ways in a story. The story flows from the characters and Cobb's central impulses are self-deception and desire for reality, contradictory, and that leads to tragedy. We all know what really happened on the ledge. Cobb's wife had the kids with her. The movie's proper ending should have been when Cobb remembers the event truthfully. Only then can there be a resolution, because the movie wasn't really about the brain heist, it was about Cobb and his dead wife.
Thus sayeth frang: Inception, fail!!

Re: Why I hate Inception
I believe Cobb is still dreaming at the end of the story. Something about his wedding ring?
Anywho, I agree with your review, minus the ending gripe. My favorite sort of ending is the one that leaves you thinking "Wha-?"

I agree with what the director said about this subject.
Everyone is making a very big deal about the ending, was he asleep or not? But, to me, that does not matter. What matters is that Cobb was not looking at it. He did not care. He was looking at his kids. He was home again. So I think, whether or not this was a dream, he got what he needed. How many of us live our lives in a dream?

Re: Why I hate Inception
I think it was all a dream personally, i think he already had seen the kids and it was him playing it all back through his mind from an old age.. But i dunno. I guess i agree with Parker and the Director. But i disagree that there should be a second inception, the plot was good and it was an amazing movie. Don't ruin it by trying to squeeze more money out of it. Only thing worse would be hiring Nicolas Cage.

Re: Why I hate Inception
There was nothing wrong with Inception. Great script. Wonderful Soundtrack. Amazing Actors. The Ending fit just as perfectly.
If you watch Cobb's totem close enough, it's starts to wobble just before it cuts to the Credits. If he were dreaming, it wouldn't have done that. So, he wasn't in a dream.
So I disagree with Frang on this.

Re: Why I hate Inception
I'll take the hits, lol, that's part of the fun of writing reviews.
And Nicolas Cage for Inception 2? Gah. Thank the gods you're only joking. The guy has never seen a B-movie idea he hasn't liked. For all my [Bzzzt!] about Inception's conclusion, it was a good classy SF movie, not some grind-house crap.
EDIT: And why is [Bzzzt!] banned and crap isn't? I certainly didn't put [Bzzzt!] in the list when I started up the anti-profanity scanner! Come on, guys, loosen up just a tiny bit! lol.

Re: Why I hate Inception
If Hollywood has any intelligence, which I highly doubt, they will leave Inception alone. It needs no Sequel.

Re: Why I hate Inception
If only Hollywood wasn't a big greedy corporation, I'm sure theres a guy out there writing up inception 2. Though i think that there should never be a second one.

Re: Why I hate Inception
I read someplace that the writer or director wasn't interested in a film sequel. But he did have an idea for a video game based in Inception's world
Re: Why I hate Inception
idk about a video game, it COULD be epic.. But then again it could be terrible. Depends on the makers and stuff.

Re: Why I hate Inception
Frang, to fight your opinions I say this:
I <3 Inception. Its plot wasnt even that bad imo. The way they set it up, his wife could still be alive.
