The Unfinished Game: Section 8 - Prejudice
Good news and bad news about Section 8: Prejudice. It is fun, but only for a limited period. There are currently only four game modes: sp campaign, conquest, assault, and swarm (a co-op mode). Conquest is like TDM with a few complications, assault's the same as it is in repcom. Assault wasn't mentioned in the reviews because of a silly marketing campaign that locked the Assault mode until the total game kills got high enough. The bad part of these modes has to do with the way the game is constructed around acquiring experience points, gaining rank, and unlocking new weapons and better armor. This means that someone with a higher rank is both harder to kill and can deal heavier punishment. Um, this makes the PvP modes for a new player like this: spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die. You can't fight back. I never killed one single guy in Conquest or Assault. The co-op mode was a refreshing change and very playable for the new player. The only trouble, there are only four maps. One is very nice, a boulder-filled abandoned colony with grass and a variety of buildings. The other three, two are almost exact copies of Hoth and Mustafar, with the last map a copy of Halo's Timberlands. Just four maps? WTF. I got about two weeks of fun out of the co-op mode, until it became just so freaking boring. The entire game has an unfinished feel to it.
Also, at least for a PC player like me, there aren't enough servers for a new game. This is the time of maximum interest in the game, when it's first released, so I found it a little alarming at the low number of servers and players (it's also on xbox, so there might be more servers available through Live).
The look. It's "OK" on the mp side of the game. The maps, all FOUR of them, look good. The sp campaign mode, though.....[Deadly shock applied in five seconds] this is a visually ugly game. Unreal Tournament 2004 looks better than this game, and it's seven years old! UT3, repcom, even tired old Counterstrike, look much better than this game does. Borderlands and Mass Effect 2 look like they were created in a completely different universe than Sec 8 Pred. [Deadly shock applied in five seconds], so ugly.
It does run on XP and will run on low-end machines, provided you set the graphics to their lowest settings. It costs $15. That's the principal reason I'm not insane with rage over this second-rate game. It's cheap. The game developers swear there are upgrades coming....so....take yer chances if you want to try it, but by no means am I recommending this game for the clan. Oh, and no store versions exist, it's sold download only through xbox outlets and Steam.
On a completely unrelated subject, the rumors about a possible repcom II continue to grow......

Re: The Unfinished Game: Section 8 - Prejudice
Ikr???It was the tallest building on the whole friggin map....and the map was huuuugggggeeeeeeeee, you could be there for 3 hours and not see the whole thing. Well, you could, but that would be without exploring the areas you weren't supposed to be in....the top of that building being one of them, you have to change the health, shield, max fall speed, and ground speed to see most of the other places.....Blitz wrote:Fall for a year much?

Crazy off-topic much? Lets pick up this train and put it back on the tracks before the radio-active waste kills us all.
