Driver: San Francisco

Today I am reviewing Driver: San Francisco which is (of course) a driving/racing game.
Normally I'm not to fond of driving/racing games (maybe because I usually suck at them) but DSF was a huge exception. You play as detective John Tanner, who, in the first mission gets in a bad accident and subsequently put in a coma. That may seem like a spoiler but it's really not, as you work it out fairly early in the game. Then you have to solve a series of mysteries that you have nothing to do with, besides driving really fast head on into a bad guys car.
That may seem a bit shallow but the game is in fact my all time favorite driving game. The story (never the strong part of driving games if they have one) is actually quite well written. It has a freestyle mode which is great since the city is quite large and detailed. One of the things I was skeptical of when I started was this: since (I guess) you're in a coma you have to power to possess any driver in the city. But it turned out to be worked very smoothly into the game. Plus their are few things funner (yes that is a word now according to the Oxford Dictionary) then driving at 200 miles an hour into oncoming traffic to make a driving instructor wet himself. Once you've finished the story then you can still drive around the city doing races and challenges and unlocking new cars and so on.
The gameplay was well designed but one gripe on my part is how easy it is for the cars to start doing involuntary donuts and make you lose the race if you go around a corner at more then 10 Mph. However I found myself enjoying this once I got used to it. It seems to take more skill then most driving games but it's easy once you get the hang of it. Also it has a co-op mode but I didn't try that because... ahem... their might have been some... mix up... with how legit my game was...
Anyway: The verdict: 5 stars, 10/10, 100%. Great game. It's definitely worth the $26.49 that it costs to buy it new off Amazon.com.

I remember when SSoH did his playthrough of this game. I've never been big on Racing games but Driver: San Fransisco was pretty enjoyable. Especially the bit that Zeb mentioned about warping into other cars and doing some crazy chiz.

Yep. I particularly liked the one where you have to terrify the driving instructor. And thanks for editing it. As I said I'm just to lazy for all that stuff.

The last driving game I played was GTA3, so I'm not a good judge of this genre. But thanks for the review. I like the supernatural aspect of possessing other drivers. I'll keep an eye out on Steam, if it falls in price (I blew much of my game budget on the deluxe edition of Mass Effect 3, pre-order, pre-release download, no possibility of a refund.....ARGH!).

That's probably my favorite part of the game. It's especially funny when you get someone who has someone else in the car. Then the dialog is really funny.I like the supernatural aspect of possessing other drivers.
