Ghost Recon Online Review Empty Ghost Recon Online Review

Post by Sev™ Mon Apr 16, 2012 1:14 pm

Alright, so me and Luna both got into the GROnline beta, and so far it's pretty good. A few downsides imo is that you can, have your main weapon whether it be a sniper, a shotgun, an smg, or an assault rifle and a pistol. So far its a fairly balanced game, although sometimes the teams can be a bit unfair and stacked. You can buy attachments such as bi-pods, supressors, fore-grips, scopes/sights, and laser designators for your guns (i've only used the recon class really). You can buy new weapons with the in-game money earned from kills and winning matches.

A few tips for the beginning: do not buy a new weapon for your class (unless different from your starting weapon) until you reach maybe level 5 or so. And i suggest not buying the MP5k, it has TERRIBLE accuracy and is basically a waste of money. And i personally have found pistols to be ineffective and basically worthless, so if you're a sniper, you're better off trying to no-scope the enemy probably. The cover system is similar to Gears of War where you can go against a wall, boxes, etc., but you can lie down while behind cover as well.

And now i will let Luna give his review of the game.

So, I mainly play the recon class like Sev. I have played a little of the assault class, but I'm not a fan of the recoil of the starting gun. However, you can change from full-auto, to semi, so you can land those longer range shots much easier. The attachments are pretty varied in that you can put a 1x zoom reflex sight on a sniper rifle, if that's what you would prefer*coughcough*. There is also magnum ammo that you can switch out for your normal ammo, even in the middle of a firefight. It gives you that little extra punch you need, in case you have a silencer, which does make a differance. So many times I get a headshot, only to find the guy has about 3 health left. The attachments really make a difference, even if the stat change looks small.

Well, thats all I can think of to say for now. I will try and get a video of some laggy gameplay, because my computer can't handle playing a game and recording at the same time.

And here is that video! The times of the battles are in the description. I wanted to include both the battles and the time in between, in an attempt to show off the customization and whatnot.

Luna....Nice video, you successfully captured the essence of the game, only, it's a little on the long side. Perhaps edit it down to about ten minutes?

Ugh.. loadouts... i have never understood these complicated loadout systems. Some people love the customization, i just find it overly complex. On a side note, i know its in beta, but anyone have an idea for the expected price?

A good hint for starting, and this is just a guess mostly, is to not buy (i'll be using a recon sniper class as an example) a new sniper rifle and just stick with your beginners one until you are a much higher level where buying one of the best snipers in the game with the attachments you want will be "cheap" for you (meaning you'll be able to buy it as soon as you reach the needed level).

Heh, I have an entire plan on buying stuff. I don't really feel I will need a new smg after buying the 3rd one(pp2000) and I already have a good sniper(SRS) with good attachments, so I'm waiting untill I can get a much higher level one. I am also waiting on a high level pistol. Pretty much, you can make due fairly well with just a few low level things, then save up to get the more expensive shtuffs. I was thinking of buying the semi auto sniper, but after seeing its damage(~76) it did discourage me, seeing as how my silencer causes me to hit about 4-6 health too low on some headshots....

I cant tell you how many times i've been killed by the semi-auto snipers. Though i'm personally going for the sniper that does something like 131 damage. I think its called the M200 or something like that. Its a bolt-action i believe, but it kills recon class with one shot anywhere. Although i've managed to kill each class with one shot while using magnum rounds from the SRS. Razz

Heh, I have never noticed the semi auto snipes. If your fast enough, you can take the shot and get back behind cover before you get hit. And really!? 131 damage? That can kill even assault without a headshot, as they only have 120 health normally.

Well theres all so the damage reduction buffs that weaken the shots. Plus there's the silencer and shtuff. But add on the magnum ammo and oh boy everybody screwed. Razz

Ok, so I have the semi-auto snipes, and well.... how does a 39/18 kill death sound? I put a Phantom 1-4x scope on it, so I can use it as a carbine, and as a sniper. It is very weak however, even taking about 5 shots to kill some enemies(idk how they are such tanks). It is even pretty good at point blank no-scopes. I can also see it as a great long range sniping weapon, as it also has very low recoil. It is a little more than other snipers, but still good.
