CCP: The Beta Squad Chronicles. PT 2
Dantooine: Clone Wars: Day 315
“What do you mean he’s dead?” Trooper asked.
“That’s just it, sir. He’s dead. His burial ceremony was nearly eleven years ago on Alderaan.” Revan, the engineer, replied.
“But the DNA is fresh, barely a day old…”
“Well, sir, that’s what’s strange about it.”
AT, the medic interrupted.
“Then maybe he’s not dead.”
“Well, AT, the DNA would certainly indicate that.” Revan replied.
“What else did you find?” Trooper asked.
“Some organic residue from some type of plant, I haven’t analyzed it yet, though.”
“Do it,” Trooper said abruptly. “Death, get the jedi council on the commlink.”
“So you see, Master Yoda, it would seem that one of your old padawans is not dead as believed.”
Yoda’s voice came back over the commlink, slightly staticy, the distance between Coruscant and Dantooine was rather far.
“Troubling this is,” the aged Jedi master said, “A powerful warrior was Master Dios…. Shocked were we when we heard he had fallen.”
“Well, he seems to be fine now…” Trooper said under his breath. “Apparently he’s alive and kicking, Master Yoda.”
“Hmmmm…” Yoda sighed, “Disturbing, most disturbing.”
Bloody right, Trooper thought to himself.
Revan came in just then and handed Trooper the results of the tests on the lightsaber.
“Alderaan?” Trooper asked in surprise after he saw the results.
Revan nodded affirmatively.
“Master Yoda?” Trooper asked over the commlink.
“Yes, commander?”
“Apparently, the lightsaber, and Cypher Dios, came here from Alderaan. Since this involves the jedi, I’m requesting permission to follow this lead and investigate on Alderaan.”
“Hmmmm, very well, commander. Follow this lead you may, hope that it brings light to this matter I do.”
“Me too, Master Jedi, me too.”
Alderaan: Clone Wars: Day 316: Military Headquarters: Financial District
“So then, Trooper was it?” Clone Commander PS-1154 A.K.A “Solid” asked as the Betas exited their transport.
“Yes, sir. Trooper.”
“Well, then, glad to have you here. You can call me Solid.”
“Solid,” Trooper said with a nod of acknowledgement. “These are my men, Death, Revan, and AT-5700, AT for short.”
“Good to have you all here. Now, Trooper, what’s this I hear about an investigation of a, uh… Ghost jedi?”
Trooper sighed. “I take it the grunts around here have started talking already.”
“Naturally.”
“Firstly, it’s not a ‘ghost’. After yesterday’s bombardment of Dantooine, I and one of my men-“
“Me.” AT interrupted.
“- went out to clear up some of the debris. We found a lightsaber there. I had my engineer run some tests on it, and he found some DNA that belonged to a Jedi called Cypher Dios. The thing is, the man has been presumed dead for over ten years.”
“If he’s dead, then what is there to investigate?”
“The DNA was fresh, not even a day old.”
“Oh?” Solid asked in surprise. “You have me interested, continue.”
“Further examination of the weapon led to the finding of some plant residue. One of THIS planet’s native fauna.”
“So you came here to find this.. uh.. not so dead Jedi?”
“Exactly.”
“Hmmm. Well, how can I help?”
“Well, we could use a guide. To help us find an area where this thing grows.”
“Of course. I have just the man, follow me”
Solid led Trooper and the rest of Beta Squad into a large barracks-like building and pointed out a soldier who was bent over a computer screen, apparently very involved in his work.
“That’s my pilot, Flashbang,” Solid said. “He’s also a VERY good geographer. Knows this planet, and about five others, inside out.”
“Sounds promising.”
“Quite.” Solid responded. “Let me get him over here.”
“Do you think we’ll find anything, sir?” Revan asked Trooper as Solid walked over to Flashbang.
“I don’t know… But this is just enough out of the ordinary to merit looking into it.”
Solid returned momentarily with Flashbang close behind.
“Flashbang, this is Trooper. He needs a guide.”
Later that night, Flashbang and Beta Squad had located a grove where the strange plant grew in abundance.
“And if my readings are correct… This is the only place where this grows on the planet…” Flashbang said.
“There’s nothing here though…” Death said disappointedly.
“Are you sure this the only place, Flash?” Trooper asked.
“Well, sir, I’m only telling you what my readings show…”
“What do you think, Trooper?” asked AT.
“I don’t know… Maybe-“
Trooper’s thoughts were interrupted by a small dagger that planted itself in his arm.

Trooper turned the datapad on and read the directions posted on the screen.
